January 8, 2008 -
Forward ho! Construction of the ADA ramp is underway.
When completed, it will look like a section of bridge
similar to this bridge.
The back porch is being revamped to
provide a screened porch area and laundry room. Once
these exterior renovations are completed it will be
fine tuning of the inside and climate controll installation.

Ice Storm - December 2007
Although not taken at the Route 66
Cottage premises, this photo of trees in our personal
yard a couple of miles away bears witness to the ravages
of the ice storm that put thousands of Oklahoman's out
of electricty. These poor little pine trees are over
ten years old but still were no match for Mother Nature's
icy coatings. Fortunately, none of the trees broke and
all have stood back up. A few are remain leaning, however,
and will likey require staking in spring to help them
regain their once noble upright posture.

August 26, 2007 - For
a time, our progress has been halted while Marine reservist
husband answers the call of duty to our Country. Ooorah!
However, bathroom renovation is now underway even though
he is still serving at Quantico. Many thoughts are being
kicked around on design and layout. I am anxious to
get this stage done so we can move on to installing
climate control units. :)

- Though the website hasn't shown anything
for a while, progress has been ongoing with the cottage.
The diner has now been built and being transformed into
a cozy spot for two with a red, white and black color
scheme.

Below, the "drive-in"
living area takes on "dusk" colored walls
and ceiling. Soon it will be show time on the big screen!

- The mural takes shape. The truck is after what was
supposed to be my first vehicle. However, Dad decided
it wasn't dependable enough for a girl to have, so he
sold it to the neighbor boy who promptly wrecked and
totaled it. I never forgot that truck. I thought it
was cool. The "bridge" in the upper right
corner is mucked so it will be a "do over"
later this week. Creating this Route 66 mural has been
a lot of fun.

And "what do those
tiny little Burma Shave signs say?" you ask. "This
is it. Here you are. Grab your bags. Park the car. Welcome
to...Route 66 Cottage."

- The former occupant was a big Bristow Purple
Pirate Fan with an additional love of pink - can you
tell? So, now it's out with the purple and pink and
bring on the neutral. Once the base coat has dried,
we'll do another cover coat and then on to the decorative
paint applications. That's my daughter, by the way.
Taking advantage of that youthful enthusiasm while she
has it. ;)

February 27, 2005 - The
cottage now sports a beautiful new reddish terra cotta
asphalt shingle roof. Now some touch up of exterior
wood trim and painting of the awnings is in order. (Roof

- Route 66 Cottage on day one of ownership. The dream
begins! Lots of internal work tearing out old dirtied
carpets to reveal honey color painted slat board floors.
Demolition also underway of the closed-in carport that
a leaky roof had ruined. Hung an exterior entry door
from carport to utility area. Next on the agenda will
be a new roof and then renovations and painting of the
inside.
